Young workers

Young people must have the opportunity for decent jobs. Research consistently shows that young men and women are often marginalised. They must overcome more barriers than adults to secure decent employment. Worldwide, young people are three and a half times more likely to be unemployed. Steps must be taken to ensure that young people have access to education, training, and economic opportunities.

PSI workshop in Indonesia on strengthening women and youth leadership

The national activity of the PSI - DGB BW project was conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia. Anchoring on the theme “Strengthening Women and Youth Leadership in the Trade Union Movement”, 27 young people from six affiliated unions attended the three-day workshop on April 23-25, 2019.

Four-day working week for all is a realistic goal this century, unions say

Advances in technology mean that a four-day working week is a realistic goal for most people by the end of this century, the leader of the UK's trade union movement has said. She gets support from the biggest trade union in Norway, Fagforbundet, saying “our backdrop is the same” and there is a great “need for reorganizing our working hours”.

London's bus workers have won a huge victory. Now, it's the cleaners' turn.
Just three days before the opening of the Olympic games in London, London's bus drivers have won a big victory. As their union Unite reported, the workers "overwhelmingly voted to accept an offer of an Olympic award, meaning most workers will get £577 for the massive increase in workload over the Olympics.”

Young Workers: Why is migration an issue for you?

Migration is an issue that affects us all. It cuts across many realities either at work or in the community. PSI works with trade unions worldwide to protect migrant workers. PSI also works to improve wages and working conditions – to reduce the economic pressure to migrate and to improve the quality of health and social services.

EPSU, PSI's European branch, launched on 22 January its report on "Training, jobs and decent work for young people in the public sector". The event took place in the EPSU offices and was presented by Nick Clark, researcher for the Association for Working Lives Research Institute, London University and author of the report, Céline Moreau (Jeunes FGTB) and Pierre Ledecq (Jeunes CSC).
