For some years now, the PSI, along with 50 other civil society organisations, has participated in an international campaign to persuade the UN to formally agree that “the right to peace is a condition for a democratic and equitable order”. On 19 December 2016, the United Nations General Assembly finally approved Resolution 71/189, adopting the Declaration on the Right to Peace proposed by the Human Rights Council.

From today (23) until February 1, member states will be deliberating on a wide range of issues. PSI will be active at the Global Health Watch monitoring the public sessions and intervening on technical issues. The Global Health Watch is a forum for global civil society to question and challenge the influence of neoliberalism on health and global health policy.

Last November, the National Assembly of Slovenia passed an amendment to its Constitution to include a new article that recognizes the Human Right to Water. The amendment affirms water should be treated as a public good managed by the state, not as a commodity, and that drinking water must be supplied by the public sector on a not-for-profit basis.

On 4 December 2016 about 1000 people marched through Geneva calling citizens to mobilize against the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). Public Services International and its affiliate SSP/VPOD together with approximately 20 organisations, including solidaritéS, Les Verts and ATTAC GE participated in the protest.
