Audio: Globe Trade Agreements for Corporations

04 September, 2014
RadioLabour has prepared a special report on the global trade agreements: What they are and how they will affect working people.

A number of global trade agreements, which will have serious consequences for workers, are being negotiated in secret. They include:

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the US and the European Union;
The Trade in Services Agreement (TISA)  being negotiated by 23 countries;
and the  Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) being negotiated between the European Union and Canada.

Corporations will be the big winners, workers the big losers.

The report features interviews with:

  • Richard Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO in the United States
  • Bernadette Ségol, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation
  • Rosa Pavanelli, General Secretary of Public Services International
  • Jan Willem Goudriann, General Secretary of the European Federation of Public Service Unions
  • Paul Moist, President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees
  • Georgios Altintzis, ITUC economist

The report is available on the RadioLabour website at: http://www.radiolabour.net/trade-040914.htm

Public Services International (PSI), affiliate leaders and partners will convene in Washington, D.C., 15-17 September 2014 to discuss the new threats posed to workers, public services, democracy and our communities by trade and investment agreements.
