A delegation of 100 Algerians prevented from attending the World Social Forum !

PSI was dismayed to learn yesterday, March 25, 2013, that a caravan of SNAPAP trade unionists, human rights activists, members of the national committee for the defense of the rights of the unemployed, and the women's committee was prevented from crossing the border into Tunisia to attend the World Social Forum.
This caravan of 100 people from various parts of Algeria has been blocked for more than 24 hours by the border police who have been instructed to refuse access to them.
This is not the first time that the Algerian authorities have attempted to prevent trade unionists and human rights activists from organising or participating in a civil and peaceful protest, even when they take place outside Algeria.
Public Services International (PSI) has written to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, reminding him of the basic right of all Algerians to freedom of movement. PSI supports its affiliate, SNAPAP, and strongly condemns this violation of freedom and harassment of autonomous trade unionists.
