PSI’s objectives in attending the WTO meeting in Bali are to defend workers’ rights and quality public services, and in particular raise awareness about the harmful effects of the proposed Trade In Services Agreement (TISA).
WTO negotiations on a new ‘trade facilitation’ agreement in advance of the Bali meeting came to an impasse on 26 November. This deal would threaten food security and increase inequalities across developing countries. See the statement from PSI and our allies.
Public Services International is working with numerous allies including Our World Is Not For Sale, Jubilee South and the ITUC to send a strong message to governments that current World Trade Organization discussions are flawed and unfair. PSI affiliate members are joining with civil society delegates from 31 countries and Indonesians and mobilising at the 9th WTO Ministerial meeting in Bali, 3-6 December 2013.
