The meeting of the Inter-American Regional Executive Committee (IAMREC) of PSI was held on 23 and 24 March, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The participants from across the region discussed many issues related to the political situation and to the organization.
On the first day, at the opening table, the welcome was given by the co-chairs of PSI Interamerica Candice Owley, from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT/USA), and Omar Autón, from the Union of Civilian Personnel of the Nation (UPCN, Argentina), in addition to Rosa Pavanelli, General Secretary of PSI, and Edivaldo Pitanga, from the Confederation of Workers in the Federal Public Service (CONDSEF, Brazil).

The meeting continued with the discussion about the political situation in the Americas. Roberto Pagán, Secretary of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in Puerto Rico; Kjeld Jakobsen, from the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA); and Daniel Bertossa, director of policy and governance of the PSI, made their presentations. Subsequently, other participants of the meeting discussed the situation in their countries and sub-regions. The first day ended with the discussion about the Programme of Action of the PSI's World Congress of the organization and about the amendments to its Constitution.

On the second and last day of the meeting, other themes related to the Congress, the proposals for subregional representations in the IAMREC and the Executive Board, and the Virtual Platform of the Regional Action Plan were discussed. Reports on the meeting of the Regional Women's Committee were also presented.

The participants of the meeting approved two motions. The first one supports the resolution adopted by the Andean Subregional Consultative Meeting (SUBRAC) of the Public Services International, held in La Paz, Bolivia, on 23 and 24 February. The document supports, as part of the actions of the trade union organizations of the PSI against corruption, the bill presented to the National Congress of Peru by the Ombudsman's Office, which "promotes transparency in public decision-making." The second motion approved is in solidarity "with the workers of Argentina in repudiation of the military coup of March 24, 1976".(Click here to download the motion, in Spanish)
