Office of the Philippine President reiterates commitment to abolish recruitment fees

09 March 2017
Signing of the Manifesto on 10 January 2017 at the Public Symposium on Promoting Fair and Ethical Recruitment
During the labour dialogue involving PSI union leaders that was held early this month, President Rodrigo Duterte of the Republic of the Philippines reiterated his office’s commitment to abolish recruitment fees and to promote fair and ethical recruitment of overseas Filipino workers.

The unions are lobbying for the amendment of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) administrative order that allows the collection of up to one-month salary equivalent of recruitment fees on migrant workers. Such policy and practice is outrageously unfair to workers, leading to their indebtedness and vulnerability to recruitment agencies.
