The Development platform of the Americas (PLADA)

30 January 2015
The Development Platform for the Americas (PLADA) is a strategic platform drawn up collectively by the trade union movement during 2013 and 2014, with the participation of Public Services International (PSI), to promote labour rights.

PLADA may ultimately help PSI members as a reference text in the debates on several topics which will be covered during the IAMRECON.

The region’s trade union movement intends to use this Platform to present its proposals aimed at overcoming the structural imbalances in Latin America and the Caribbean, with special emphasis on sustainable development.

The PLADA is designed to become the tool for the trade union movement’s mobilisations and political actions, aimed at promoting the body of changes needed from a strategic perspective, in response to the various social, political issues and actors as well as the governments of the region.

It is an instrument calling on the region’s various social and political forces to work together to build alternatives in the battle for a new hegemony. The document is structured around four pillars or dimensions - political, economic, social and environmental - which will be geared towards achieving sustainable development.

Five thousand people, including trade union representatives from over 20 countries, together with representatives from the region’s political institutions and authorities, were present for the launch in Santiago on 6 May 2014.
