PSI General Secretary, Rosa Pavanelli, welcomed the decision of the French government to ask the EU to withdraw from the TTIP negotiations. The French position follows a recent statement by the German Vice-Chancellor, Sigmar Gabriel, affirming that “TTIP has failed – but no one is admitting it”.

Emergency Resolution on Terrorism

PSI Steering Committee meeting SC-19 opened with a moment of silence and solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks on Paris on 13 November. The meeting then adopted an emergency resolution on terrorism condemning all acts of violence towards civilians, deploring the violent attacks worldwide and calling on governments to pursue the diplomatic route and reach political decisions that can ensure both peace and justice.

Climate change: Towards and Beyond COP21

The solutions to the climate challenge require a substantive transformation of the current socio-economic development paradigm, including industrial change. This is not just about some technical changes to energy production or transport systems. What is required is a redefinition of the predominant model of production and consumption. We must give back to the state and public services their role in supporting our communities, and ensure that workers and trade unions are able to participate fully in all steps of this process.

The FO, CGT, SUD and UNSA health federations have written to the health minister calling for an end to 12-hour shifts in the public health sector.
