World of Work meeting (New Zealand)

Date:
17 March, 2019
Time:
09.00 - 17.00
Location:
Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand
Event type:
On 17 March, previous to the five-day ILGA world conference, a meeting titled "World of Work" will be held on the role of trade unions defending LGBTI rights. Both events will take place in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.

In conjunction with the next World Conference of the ILGA (International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association), a meeting will take place about the role of trade unions defending LGBTI rights, under the title “WoW”, the World of Work. This conference is occurring at the same time as LGBTI trade unionists confront the most damaging economic and social attacks in decades.

Trade unionists from around the world from various backgrounds, including those from PSI affiliated unions have taken a lead in organizing the World of Work meeting. These activists have already initiated both the logistical and political work to make this event a success.

The World of Work meeting is open to anyone interested in the role of trade unions in defending LGBTI rights. Both long-term unionists and newcomers will find attractive elements in the programme. The meeting will create space for exchanging information about what unions and union organisations such as PSI do and an opportunity to collectively analyse and discuss the global trends behind recent developments in the world of labour, the consequences for mechanisms of discrimination and exclusion, and to increase the capacity and strength of union organisations active in this area. There will also be a discussion about enhancing collaboration with ILGA.

More details including the official agenda will follow and be added to the site upon confirmation.
