The wife of the Executive Director of the Environmental Rights Action (ERA), Godwin Ojo, who was kidnapped on February 22, has been released. ERA is an important PSI partner in the campaign against water privatization in the country.

2016 Caribbean SUBWOC meeting

The Sub-regional Women’s Advisory Committee (SUBWOC) meets on the day preceding the Sub-regional Advisory Committee (SUBRAC) meeting and comprises the women representatives attending that meeting. The chair is Sis Jillian Bartlett, the Caribbean Women’s Titular. The SUBWOC meets annually. In accordance with PSI’s constitution, the number of representatives attending the SUBWOC meeting must be at least 50% of the number of representatives attending the SUBRAC meeting.

Women leaders of unions affiliated to PSI in the Arab countries of Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia attended a two-day seminar to discuss the campaigns that form part of the project sponsored by the LO-TCO and PSI to increase the participation of women in the trade unions.

STOP gender-based violence at work

The ILO Governing Body, at its meeting in Geneva, Switzerland on 12 November 2015, agreed to discuss a new international standard on gender-based violence at work. It will be included in the agenda of the 2018 International Labour Conference.

Precarious work in Africa

Globally, studies have shown that initial impact of the global economic crisis on employment, left over 27 million people without work. Where jobs are available, precarious employments have replaced standardized employments. Women are disproportionately affected by these precarious employments.
