The workplace appears set to be safer for health workers in California hospitals, with the approval of new rules by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) which would make it compulsory for hospitals and other healthcare facilities to establish violence prevention protocols, with the active involvement of the workers.

The countdown for Habitat III - the UN conference that is expected to set out the new guidelines for urban policies - has begun. The ‘United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development ’ – as it is officially called - will take place in Quito, Ecuador, 17 – 20 October 2016.

On the 26th of February, more than 12,000 nurses under the banner of the All India Government Nurses Federation (AIGNF) were off-duty to protest against “retrograde recommendations” of the 7th Central Pay Commission. In case the government remains deaf to their demands, an indefinite strike will start from the 15th of March on.

On Monday 14 September 2015, health workers organised under the banner of Mumbai Mahanagarpalika Karmachari Mahasangh (MMKM) held a protest rally in front of Sewri TB Hospital in Mumbai, where Rani Nagre, 31, staff nurse at the hospital died as a result of drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) on 9 September.

The FO, CGT, SUD and UNSA health federations have written to the health minister calling for an end to 12-hour shifts in the public health sector.
