Solidarity with victims and public services workers in Kenya

24 September 2013
Public Services International and its 20 million members worldwide convey heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the attack by the Al-Shabab Militia at the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, and to all PSI affiliates in Kenya.

PSI strongly condemns terrorism and stands against the use of any form of violence against civilians. With unbelievable cruelty, more than 60 people were killed and more than 160 injured, among them many children and women. This act of terror, targeting the most vulnerable, was committed on a national holiday that celebrates children, during which families spend time in public areas like the Westgate shopping mall.

We also wish to convey our solidarity and support to all of the public service workers who provide essential services to those hit by these heinous crimes. Emergency and health workers are the first responders in such situations and we join hands with you in these difficult times that require courage and dedication from all those involved. This is a time when our members are the bearers of relief and hope in a world that is blinded by aggression.

Public Services International stands with Kenyan workers and citizens in the fight against violence and hate and will continue our common struggle for a peaceful and just world.
