PSI meets with Liberian Minister of Labour @ ILC2018

08 June 2018
PSI's General Secretary Rosa Pavanelli and Regional Secretary for Africa & Arab Countries Sani Baba met with the Liberian Minister for Labour, Moses Y. Kollie, to discuss the ongoing push for union rights in the country.

The High-Level meeting represented a step in the right direction for the new Liberian administration, which has taken significant action to increase respect for unions and workers rights.

The previous Government, at the height of the Ebola crisis, unilaterally dismissed leaders of the National Healthworkers Assoication of Liberian (NAHWAL). More than four years later, after a meeting with the new President, these leaders have now been reinstated.

A highlight of the meeting was the personal invitation made by the Minister for PSI to take part in a National conference on Labour issues to be held in Liberia later this year.

PSI will continue to support our affiiliates in the country and is working to share lessons learned by frontline health staff in the fight against Ebola with other unions in regions facing a re-emerging threat from the virus.
