Solidarity with Turkey

Trade union rights and civil liberties have significantly deteriorated in Turkey since the attempted coup of 15 and 16 July 2016. Under the state of emergency, the Turkish government has arrested and detained thousands of workers and trade unionists. By 8 February 2017, more than 100,000 public employees have been summarily suspended or dismissed, accused in most cases without any basis of proof or evidence of having been involved in the attempted military coup. This situation continues until today. #Turkey

On 7th November 2013, Abvakabo FNV Women took part in a two-day seminar on gender equality in Baku in Azerbaijan with representatives of Azeri and Turkish unions. The seminar was organised with the support of Marina Irimie, PSI and EPSU sub-regional secretary for South East Europe. The seminar tackled issues of public sector services, government, healthcare and education and went on to discuss the terms and conditions in which women work.

Nine KESK members released in Turkey, pending trial

Nine members of PSI affiliate KESK have been released from prison. They form part of a large group of KESK members who were arrested in February 2013.

Turkey: deadlock in collective negotiations

PSI has written a letter in support of its affiliate, Genel-Is, in the recent dispute with two of Izmir’s Metropolitan Municipal companies, Izelman and Izenerji. After a deadlock in collective negotiations, and failure to reach an agreement during the subsequent mediation process, Genel-Is took the decision to call a strike for the 26 July, 2013.

Global Unions Call for Immediate End to Repression in Turkey

Global Unions, collectively representing over 200 million union members, including in Turkey, stand in solidarity with the people of Turkey. Our organisations wish to reiterate their serious concern at the repeated use of brutal and excessive measures including rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannon by government security forces against people peacefully exercising their rights.

Turkish unions launch general strike as government repression intensifies

PSI pledges its full support to the general strike called by five major trade union centres and professional organisations on 17 June 2013. PSI joins the ITUC and other global unions in calling on the Turkish government to immediately end police brutality, to respect these protests and trade union actions, and to enter into dialogue to address the legitimate concerns expressed.
